Pest Control Millipedes
Portuguese millipedes were accidentally introduced to Australia and have become an invasive pest. They consume decomposing plant materials and in doing so, contribute to the nutrient cycle. They grow to around 45mm long and as a defence they secrete a yellowish pungent liquid that contains hydrogen cyanide which irritates the eyes and permanently stains clothes. They have no natural predators in Australia.
We apply chemicals directly to millipedes or as a barrier on brick or cement surfaces around the home which kills millipedes when they attempt to cross. So, tell your millipedes to nick off. If they come back, so do we.
